Participate in an enjoyable walking tour of the Boxyard and earn continuing education credit.  After the tour\, we’ll gather for the AIA Triangle Annual Membership Meeting followed by a networking reception and social on the outdoor terrace at Fullsteam Brewery. \n5:30 pm – 6:30 pm Walking Tour of Boxyard RTP | EARN 1 AIA/LU HSW CREDIT! \nJoin a group of speakers who played an integral part of the design and development of this project for a guided tour of Boxyard RTP. This is an excellent opportunity to see this unique project in action and hear about lessons learned from designing with shipping containers.  \n\n6:30 pm – 7:30 pm AIA Triangle Annual Business Meeting \nOur annual gathering of members\, partners\, and guests. Board President Albert McDonald\, AIA will lead the official business meeting\, introduce the 2022 Board\, review our accomplishments for 2021\, and share our vision for 2022. Recipients of the Annual President’s Award and Wake Technical Community College scholarship will be announced. \n\n7:30 pm – 9:00 pm Networking reception \nAfter the business meeting\, be sure to stay for the networking reception and social on the outside terrace at Fullsteam Brewery. Durham has been making headlines with its strategic approach to urban development. Attend Mr. Young’s presentation to learn more about Durham’s initiatives such as the Expanding Housing Choices (EHC) ordinance. \nWhat is EHC? EHC is intended to create additional housing opportunities in the highest demand neighborhoods in Durham\, while preserving the character and quality of these neighborhoods. This should help stabilize housing prices and allow for greater housing access in high-opportunity neighborhoods. \n \nPatrick O. Young\, AICP \nDirector\, Durham City-County Planning Department \nPatrick Young is the Director of the Durham City/County Planning Department since April of 2017.  Mr. Young has worked as a professional urban planner for over 25 years\, the last 20 in North Carolina. Prior to his appointment as Director\, Mr. Young was Assistant Director for Development with the Durham City/County Planning Department since 2008\, and led the efforts to implement the new Durham City-County Development Services Center\, which opened in April of 2017 \nBefore coming to Durham\, Mr. Young was Director of Planning and Inspections for Franklin County\, North Carolina and was Senior Planner and Project Manager for Holland Consulting Planners of Wilmington. Mr. Young received his master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Florida State University and is a member of the Triangle Council of the Urban Land Institute and a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. \n\n \nTour Counter Coffee Training Center Roastery & Headquarters \nJoin us at 4:00 pm to tour the project and learn how Counter Culture Coffee committed to the re-development of downtown by revitalizing an old grain mill and processing warehouse in the east Durham into its east coast Roastery\, world Headquarters\, and hands-on Training Center. The linear pre-fabricated warehouse and its adjacent masonry structure were transformed into a state-of-the-art facility for roasting coffee\, staff offices and an educational space for the training of local baristas and coffee professionals.
