The firm has received 225 design awards since 2003 and has been featured in national and international publications including The New York Times\, New York Magazine\, Architectural Digest\, Interior Design\, Architectural Record\, Metropolitan Home\, and Dwell. In 2013\, Bates Masi was inducted into the Interior Design Hall of Fame.

Before arriving at NC State\, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses at The School of Architecture (at Taliesin)\, the University of Arizona and Auburn University. Protz has explored a range of subjects spanning from structural and environmental systems to digital representation and fabrication; past classes have covered design communication\, building information modeling\, climatic design\, housing\, inflatable architecture\, and tectonics. At the NC State School of Architecture\, he focuses on building a vibrant digital culture and developing coursework and research projects exploring emerging digital systems and materials. Presently\, he is pursuing techniques and applications for 3D-printed ceramics.

Molly is the author of the book Architectural Intelligence: How Designers and Architects Created the Digital Landscape (MIT Press\, 2017)\, which explores the radical history of design\, architecture\, and AI and the co-editor of Bauhaus Futures (MIT Press\, 2019) with Laura Forlano and Mike Ananny.
