SUMMARY:Virtual Lunch & Learn - Light + Well Building
DESCRIPTION:AIA Triangle Lunch & Learn Program \nSponsored by \n \nLIGHT + WELL BUILDING \nTuesday\, May 4 | 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm | 1 LU/HSW \nAIA Triangle Members and AIAT Annual Partners: $ 0 | Non-members: $25 \nWELL is the leading tool for advancing health and well-being in buildings globally. As stated by The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI)\, 4\,156 projects encompassing over 540 million square feet are applying WELL across 61 countries. \nThis presentation gives an overview of the lighting requirements in WELL v2 standard\, focusing on key factors plus practical recommendations and strategies that should be considered when designing and specifying human-centric lighting in commercial spaces. \nLearning Outcomes: \n\nUnderstand a general overview of the WELL Building Certification process\nIdentify the intent of the lighting features in the WELL Building Standard\nDevelop an understanding of luminaire selection and lighting design strategy to achieve lighting credits\nIdentify elements in the architectural environment that influence the effectiveness of lighting design strategy\n\nPresented by: \nRich Boughton\, Regional Sales Manager\, FLUXWERX \n\n\nRegistration required for continuing education credit\nAIA Members and AIAT Annual Partners: $0 | Non-members: $25\nLink to Zoom meeting will be emailed to all registrants\nDeadline to register is 10:00 am on Tuesday\, May 4

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: Pathogen Reduction for the Modern Age: UV and Near-UV as Disinfection Aids
DESCRIPTION:AIA Triangle Lunch & Learn \nSponsored by \n \nPathogen Reduction for the Modern Age: UV and Near-UV as Disinfection Aids \nMay 25 | 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm | 1 LU/HSW \nAIA members & AIA Triangle Annual Partners: $0 | Non-members: $25 \nThis presentation will discuss the use of Germicidal UV (and some non-UV) technologies that may be deployed  to reduce pathogens in public spaces. Various technological solutions will be explored – reviewing their history of use\, discussing how they work and their effectiveness for typical commercial applications that we see today. Additionally\, design considerations and techniques will be discussed in depth for applying UV disinfection technology safely and effectively\, incorporating luminaire concepts to supplement the delivery of general ambient illumination. The presentation will also highlight most recent advances in UV disinfection technology that offer more targeted capabilities for today’s specific pathogen reduction needs. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nParticipants will recognize the ability and effectiveness of ultraviolet (and some near-UV) sources to reduce pathogens on surfaces and in air and water.\nParticipants will describe how pathogen reduction with a UV or near-UV source is calculated differently than illumination with a visible light source.\nParticipants will distinguish various ultraviolet and near-ultraviolet wavelengths for use in occupied or unoccupied spaces and discuss how these technologies may be deployed for the least design-disruptive and most cost-effective manner.\nParticipants will identify the potential impacts of misapplied ultraviolet and near-ultraviolet sources.\n\nPresented by: \nTommy Nichols\, Architectural Sales Director\, Healthcare Lighting & Luminaire LED \nTommy Nichols\, LC is the Sales Director for Healthcare Lighting and Luminaire LED\, Acuity Brands divisions specializing in vandal resistant\, confinement\, behavioral health\, healthcare\, and pathogen reduction solutions. Tommy has grown into his role as Sales Director as a 9 year professional in the lighting industry\, with areas of interest in behavioral health lighting\, the needs of healthcare specialty spaces\, pathogen reduction solutions to make people feel safer in their environment\, and a dedication to developing solutions to expedite patient healing. \n\n\nOnline program registration required for continuing education credit\nAIA members and AIA Triangle Annual Partners: $0 | Non-members: $25\nLink to Zoom meeting will be emailed upon registration and morning of the program\nDeadline to register is 10:00 am on May 25th

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn - Contracts and Insurance 101
DESCRIPTION:AIA Triangle Virtual Lunch & Learn \nSponsored by \n \nContracts and Insurance 101 \nMay 27 | 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm | 1 LU credit \nAIA Triangle Members and AIA Triangle Annual Partners: $0 | Non-members: $25 \nIn a world of contracts and insurance\, this program will answer some of the most important questions architects may have. What requirements should architects be looking for in contracts and certificates of insurance?  What are the key elements in a certificate of insurance and what is their significance?  What are some of the key contract provisions to watch for\, both in prime agreements and in sub consulting agreements? \nLearning Objectives \n\nArchitects who are just beginning to negotiate contracts will learn how to identify issues of key importance.\nArchitects with more experience in negotiating contracts will learn new ways to better understand the issues and explain them to clients and consultants.\nAll participants will discover emerging risks and requirements and gain more clarity on how to navigate them.\nAll participants will become more familiar with the language of industry standard documents and the process by which they serve all project stakeholders fairly.\n\nPresented by \nBarbara Sable\, Director of Client Engagement and Risk Management\, Nexus Professional Risk \n A New Jersey native\, graduate of Northwestern “Go Cats!”\, Director of Client Engagement and Risk Management\, Barb joined Nexus in 2020. With 35+ years in the insurance industry\, Barb has earned the nickname Big Sister as she is always looking to offer words of wisdom and sound advice for clients and colleagues. With a BA in Mathematics\, Barb was attracted to working with A&E firms as her degree intersected nicely with design. A full day for Barb would include a hike along the C&O canal\, hearing a client say “Thanks! That’s really helpful”\, and raising funds for her favorite nonprofits. Always looking at the sweeter side of life\, her first job was working at a family-owned store and getting paid in candy and ice cream. Good luck reaching Barb on June 20th as it’s likely she and her husband\, Craig\, will be enjoying the longest day of the year with Ruthie their English Pointer. \nStephen Agnew\, Principal\, IMCI \nNative of Charlotte\, North Carolina\, graduate of UNC Charlotte\, Principal at IMCI\, and the team’s Chief Tea Drinker. You can catch him in the early mornings\, holed up in a local coffee shop\, sipping tea and focusing on a contract review or company project. Stephen is a relationship builder by nature; his top Strength is Developer so he sees nothing but potential in others and likes to invest in their growth. He is a voracious reader and podcast junkie\, regularly sharing introspective conversations about a wide array of topics with colleagues and clients alike. Stephen is ready and willing to answer all your insurance questions — on any day other than the first day of March Madness. He is the proud father of a son and a daughter. \n\n\nAIA members and AIAT Annual Partners: $0 | Non-members $25\nOnline program registration required for continuing education credit\nZoom link will be emailed to registrants\nDeadline to register is 10:00 am on May 27\, 2021\n\n
