This course discusses the basics of heat transfer\, relevant energy code provisions for walls\, and how current research by the National Brick Research Center demonstrates the role that brick veneer can play in meeting or exceeding energy requirements in modern wall assemblies. \nLearning Objectives \n\nIndicate how wall assemblies have changed throughout history and identify the thermal performance contribution of each component in the assembly.\nDescribe the impact of thermal mass\, vented airspace\, and reflective insulation on energy usage and code requirements.\nExplain the differences in the code compliance paths and how mass walls\, frame walls\, and vented claddings are considered by the energy code.\nCompare the dynamic thermal performance of wall assemblies with anchored brick veneer to wall assemblies with other claddings based on the results of contemporary research.\n\nPresented by \nZach Booker\, EIT\, Engineer\, Brick Industry Association \nAfter graduating from James Madison University in 2016 with a BS in Engineering\, Zach joined the BIA Engineering & Research (E&R) Team. With an increase in design of spaces having unfinished ceilings\, hard ceilings\, and glass walls\, spaces can become loud and noisy for occupants and that distraction decreases productivity\, employee morale\, and customer satisfaction.  By addressing the acoustics in a space\, the design intent can be achieved while also providing a more appealing environment for those in the space. This presentation will provide information about how the integration of acoustic control in lighting fixtures can be part of the solution. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES \nParticipants will assess the effects of noise in the workplace \nParticipants will discover the basics of acoustics \nParticipants will determine the quality of sound environment \nParticipants will determine effective integration of acoustic control in lighting fixture design \nPRESENTED BY \nScott Stetler\, Architectural Specification Manager\, Eureka Lighting \nScott Stetler is the Architectural Specification Manager at Eureka Lighting / Acuity Brands for the Eastern US region.  Scott holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design from Purdue University\, located in West Lafayette\, Indiana. Scott has 30+ years of experience in the commercial architectural lighting field and that experience includes extensive knowledge of the distribution side of the lighting industry\, as well as being a manufacturers’ representative for 20+ years\, and regional sales manager for over 12 years.  Scott was previously certified as an AIA Passport Provider while employed by Lightolier in New York City\, where he conducted AIA presentations to top tier design firms and IALD Lighting Designers.  Scott has been awarded an IES Section Award for the Capitol Products project he designed located in Kentland\, Indiana and has served as a guest design critic at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn\, NY in conjunction with the lighting designer Markus Early. \n  \n\n\nOnline program registration required for continuing education credit\nAIA members and AIA Triangle Annual Partners: $0 | Non-members: $25\nZoom link will be emailed to registrants the morning of the program\nDeadline to register is 10:00 am on June 22nd
