SUMMARY:Lunch and Learn - The Role of SLAM Technology for Reality Capture & the Metaverse
DESCRIPTION:AIA Triangle Lunch & Learn Program \nSponsored by \n \n\n\n\nAIA Triangle Lunch & Learn\n\n\nSponsored by GPI Geospatial\, Inc.\n\n\nThe Role of SLAM Technology for Reality Capture & the Metaverse\n\n\nMay 2nd\, 2023 | 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM | CE credit pending approval\n\n\nOption to attend in-person or online via Zoom\n\n\nCenter for Architecture and Design (CfAD)\n\n\n14 E. Peace St. | Raleigh\, NC\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeospatial data is taking a lead role in the development of the eventual metaverse. Highly detailed 3D datasets along with GIS will serve as the backbone of whatever the metaverse will become as the concept continues to take shape. Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) systems simplify data collection and significantly increases the speed by which 3D datasets can be developed. SLAM technology utilizes both lidar and cameras for mapping both indoor and outdoor locations. This emerging approach to reality capture is making it possible to efficiently map robust 3D environments in ways that have been cost-prohibitive in the past. The goal of this presentation is to introduce the fundamentals of SLAM systems and provide a representative sample of real-life use cases.\n\n\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\n\n\n\n\nParticipants will know the fundamentals of Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) technology by being introduced to core concepts.\nParticipants will identify use cases for indoor mapping and using lidar data to generate BIM models by examining real-life projects.\nParticipants will be able to define reality capture by examining current applications including digital twins.\nParticipants will be able to define high-level concepts of a theoretical metaverse through discussion of possible applications within the A&E industry.\n\n\n\n\nPRESENTED BY\n\n\nJamey Gray\, PLS\, GISP | Senior Geospatial Manager | GPI Geospatial\, Inc.\n\n\nJamey Gray\, PLS\, GISP has 19 years’ experience in surveying\, remote sensing and GIS. He currently serves as a Senior Geospatial Manager and oversees GPI Geospatial’s reality capture & BIM service line. Jamey is a licensed surveyor (NC\, SC\, & TN)\, GIS Professional\, and part-time instructor within UNCW’s School of Ocean & Earth Sciences. He lives in Raleigh with his wife\, Karen\, and enjoys reading\, traveling\, and working a side hustle as a contemporary artist.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTRATION OPTIONS \nZOOM REGISTRATION ONLY – Register HERE to attend online and receive your Zoom link \nIN-PERSON REGISTRATION \n\nAIA Member/AIAT Annual Partners: $0 | Non-member: $35\nRegister below to attend in-person\nLunch will be provided\n(Deadline for in-person registration: Sunday\, April 30 at 12:00 am)\nThe program will begin promptly at 12:00 PM\nCheck-in begins at 11:30 AM – Please arrive early to allow time for check-in and lunch

SUMMARY:CE & BBQ Festival: Vanguards in Color
DESCRIPTION:AIA Triangle CE & BBQ Festival\n\n\nSponsored by Zackery Michael Commercial Construction\n\n\nVanguards in Color (1 AIA LU credit)\n\n\nZackery Michael Office | 2449 Lynn Road\, Raleigh\, NC\n\n\nMay 4\, 2023 | 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM \n4:30 PM – 5:30 PM Continuing education program \n5:30 PM- 7:30 PM Zackery Michaels Annual BBQ Festival\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis course focuses on the importance of color selection in architectural design as illustrated through the work of influential architects and designers\, while exploring the Benjamin Moore Color Trends 2023 palette and concept. \n\n\n\n\n\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\n\n\n\n\nRecognize the importance of color selection in interior design as illustrated through the work of two influential interior designers who used color as a characteristic of their projects\, impacting the future of interior design. \nUsing various structures as examples\, understand the role that color plays in architecture and how selected architects used color in creative and unexpected ways.\nConnect the color selection process to the importance of specifying products with performance attributes that will bring color and design vision to life.\nBe cognizant of the ways in which Light Reflectance Value (LRV) is critical to understand how a given color will react to the lighting in a space. Understand the concepts and points of inspiration that influenced the development of the Color Trends 2023 palette.\n\n\n\n\nPRESENTED BY\n\n\nJames Brice Architect + Designer Representative- VA & Central NC\n\n\nJames Brice is an Architectural + Design Representative for Benjamin Moore with over twenty-five years experience in the architectural products industry\, during which time he has worn many hats\, including designer\, salesperson\, project manager\, product developer\, marketer\, trainer\, and brand evangelist. In his current role with Benjamin Moore\, James draws upon his experience and diverse skill-set to support the architecture and design community in the southeast region\, providing product and color education\, technical consultations\, and specification writing.\n\n\n\nIN-PERSON REGISTRATION – REGISTER HERE
