SUMMARY:EP/YAF Virtual Hard Hat Tour - Boxyard RTP
DESCRIPTION:EP/YAF Virtual Hard Hat Tour – Boxyard RTP \nMarch 31\, 2021 | 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm \nCE credit pending approval \nJoin EP/YAF for a guided virtual tour (hard hats optional for those at home) through the construction of Boxyard RTP. An excellent opportunity to catch a glimpse of this unique project and the lessons learned from designing with shipping containers. \nCallisonRTKL led the design for Boxyard RTP. a 15\,000 square foot cargotecture development coming to the Frontier Research Triangle Park (RTP) campus in 2021. Leading the design of over a dozen unique and inviting vendor spaces are local firms Matthew Konar Architect\, EVOKE Studio and is design. Vendors include first time buildouts and expanded locations of Fullsteam\, Lawrence Barbecue\, Beyu Caffé\, Wonderpuff and many other delicious and stylish local favorites. \n“We’re most excited about the unification potential of Boxyard RTP\,” says Tom Hippman\, project manager at CRTKL. “It will serve as a much-needed hub for RTP’s corporate tenants—with many flexible retail and food and beverage options\, this will be an ever-evolving space to work\, shop and play.” \nCompanies in RTP innovate every single day since its inception in 1959. With 300+ companies\, the historic Park is home to some of the world’s many breakthroughs\, inviting ideas\, connections\, and the next big thing. For the first time ever\, these innovative minds can finally meet\, eat\, connect and unwind inside the Park. Central to RTP and the Triangle Region\, Boxyard RTP provides a platform for emerging and seasoned entrepreneurs in the food\, hospitality\, retail\, and events industry. \nLearning objectives: \n\nParticipants will describe the unique design and structural solutions needed to utilize shipping containers to create a multi-tenant\, mixed-use building and outdoor courtyard.\nParticipants will demonstrate unique constraints to integrate plumbing\, mechanical\, electrical\, fire\, and all typical code required building systems within shipping containers.\nParticipants will observe and breakdown the integration of pre-manufactured\, modular components\, and site built construction in the context of commercial retail and restaurant suites.\nParticipants will explore the benefits that collaboration between base building\, tenant architects\, engineers and construction team delivers for clients and future occupants with regards to safe\, quality\, equitable spaces.\n\nPresented by: \nTom Hippman\, AIA\, LEED AP | Project Architect with Callison RTKL\nAn experienced project manager\, Tom guides clients through the design process from early development to construction\, coordinating the work of consultants and team members. As a primary point of contact\, he focuses on maintaining the project schedule and meeting deadlines to ensure efficiency without sacrificing quality. Specializing in commercial mixed-use projects\, Tom understands the importance of meeting the needs of all stakeholders. \nMatthew Konar\, Architect\nOver seven years ago\, Matthew Konar\, known by his close friends and peers simply as ‘Konar’\, opened his computer on his old North Carolina State University drafting table to start his own architectural practice\, Matthew Konar Architect and his projects immediately created a consistent theme of sensitive existing building renovations and thriving food-industry concepts ranging from ‘Farm to Table’ as well as all local businesses\, owners and characters. At The Farmhouse in Durham\, Konar is\, small step by small step\, transforming the work/life overlap for himself and his architectural practice. He and his team are reinvigorating the ‘slow’ and honored Southern traditions and\, in the process\, changing the way an architect can be a ‘leader’ through vibrant designs and deep community roots. With a passion for helping food businesses launch and expand into ‘brick and mortar’ Matthew Konar Architect creates contextual spaces for restaurants\, bars and cafes\, community kitchens\, farmers markets\, food production spaces\, and agricultural centers. \n\n\nOnline program – registration required for CE credit\nDeadline to register is 10:00 am on March 31\, 2021\nZoom meeting link will be emailed to registrants the morning of the program

SUMMARY:EP/YAF Virtual Hard Hat Tour of 301 Hillsborough Street
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome! \n \nEP/YAF\nVirtual Hard Hat Tour of\n301 Hillsborough at Raleigh Crossing \nMay 12th | 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm | 1 LU/HSW \nJoin EP/YAF for a virtual hard hat tour of 301 Hillsborough at Raleigh Crossing at lunchtime on May 12th as Duda|Paine Architects takes us on a tour of this 288\,000 sf building under construction. \nLocated two blocks from the capitol at the convergence of four city districts\, Raleigh Crossing\, the new mixed-use development at 301 Hillsborough\, will become the nexus of a diverse urban environment. A sleek\, curved façade culminates in a towering 288\,000 sf office building that brings a new dynamism to a primary urban corridor and the Raleigh skyline. 301 Hillsborough at Raleigh Crossing’s estimated completion date is Fall 2021. Duda|Paine Architects’ Jay Smith\, AIA\, LEED AP\, and Shannon Robinson will present the early design concepts and lead us on this virtual architectural tour of the building under construction. \nLearning Objectives \n\nParticipants will explore curved building façade forms using iterative design processes during preliminary building design while meeting owner desired BOMA targets to maximize rentable square footage.\nParticipants will observe the challenges of construction during a global pandemic using anecdotal stories from the team to discuss how the process of construction administration has been adapted.\nParticipants will examine best practice waterproofing methods and systems integration using industry guidelines to help define the waterproofing requirements of various building component systems.\nParticipants will integrate an exterior operable wall system using this project as a case studies to explore the challenges of not only coordinating steel\, hardware\, and curtainwall with a Nanawall system but also providing the code required egress of the space with this system.\n\nPresented by: \n \nJay Smith\, AIA\, LEED AP\, is a design director at Duda|Paine Architects. His approach to design inspires and integrates the ideas of team members from all disciplines and levels of experience. Jay’s leadership across all phases of complex\, large-scale projects is enhanced by his strength as a conceptual and analytical thinker. He recognizes the reciprocal relationship between ideas and making: the process of making can inform an idea\, just as an idea can inform the process of making. Together\, the two allow for new ideas and unexpected results to emerge.     \n \nShannon Robinson is an Associate at Duda|Paine Architects.  Her engineering and construction background has allowed her to approach design problems analytically and holistically. Shannon’s broad base of experience ensures careful consideration of all aspects of a project’s detailing across the design and construction processes.  She values sustainable and equitable practices in the built environment and strives to push projects\, clients and the firm to continue to grow and think critically about these efforts. \n\n\nRSVP required for CE credit\nOnline program – Zoom link will be emailed to registrants\nDeadline to register is 10:00 am on May 12th
