SUMMARY:EP/YAF Virtual Hard Hat Tour of 301 Hillsborough Street
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome! \n \nEP/YAF\nVirtual Hard Hat Tour of\n301 Hillsborough at Raleigh Crossing \nMay 12th | 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm | 1 LU/HSW \nJoin EP/YAF for a virtual hard hat tour of 301 Hillsborough at Raleigh Crossing at lunchtime on May 12th as Duda|Paine Architects takes us on a tour of this 288\,000 sf building under construction. \nLocated two blocks from the capitol at the convergence of four city districts\, Raleigh Crossing\, the new mixed-use development at 301 Hillsborough\, will become the nexus of a diverse urban environment. A sleek\, curved façade culminates in a towering 288\,000 sf office building that brings a new dynamism to a primary urban corridor and the Raleigh skyline. 301 Hillsborough at Raleigh Crossing’s estimated completion date is Fall 2021. Duda|Paine Architects’ Jay Smith\, AIA\, LEED AP\, and Shannon Robinson will present the early design concepts and lead us on this virtual architectural tour of the building under construction. \nLearning Objectives \n\nParticipants will explore curved building façade forms using iterative design processes during preliminary building design while meeting owner desired BOMA targets to maximize rentable square footage.\nParticipants will observe the challenges of construction during a global pandemic using anecdotal stories from the team to discuss how the process of construction administration has been adapted.\nParticipants will examine best practice waterproofing methods and systems integration using industry guidelines to help define the waterproofing requirements of various building component systems.\nParticipants will integrate an exterior operable wall system using this project as a case studies to explore the challenges of not only coordinating steel\, hardware\, and curtainwall with a Nanawall system but also providing the code required egress of the space with this system.\n\nPresented by: \n \nJay Smith\, AIA\, LEED AP\, is a design director at Duda|Paine Architects. His approach to design inspires and integrates the ideas of team members from all disciplines and levels of experience. Jay’s leadership across all phases of complex\, large-scale projects is enhanced by his strength as a conceptual and analytical thinker. He recognizes the reciprocal relationship between ideas and making: the process of making can inform an idea\, just as an idea can inform the process of making. Together\, the two allow for new ideas and unexpected results to emerge.     \n \nShannon Robinson is an Associate at Duda|Paine Architects.  Her engineering and construction background has allowed her to approach design problems analytically and holistically. Shannon’s broad base of experience ensures careful consideration of all aspects of a project’s detailing across the design and construction processes.  She values sustainable and equitable practices in the built environment and strives to push projects\, clients and the firm to continue to grow and think critically about these efforts. \n\n\nRSVP required for CE credit\nOnline program – Zoom link will be emailed to registrants\nDeadline to register is 10:00 am on May 12th

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn - Contracts and Insurance 101
DESCRIPTION:AIA Triangle Virtual Lunch & Learn \nSponsored by \n \nContracts and Insurance 101 \nMay 27 | 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm | 1 LU credit \nAIA Triangle Members and AIA Triangle Annual Partners: $0 | Non-members: $25 \nIn a world of contracts and insurance\, this program will answer some of the most important questions architects may have. What requirements should architects be looking for in contracts and certificates of insurance?  What are the key elements in a certificate of insurance and what is their significance?  What are some of the key contract provisions to watch for\, both in prime agreements and in sub consulting agreements? \nLearning Objectives \n\nArchitects who are just beginning to negotiate contracts will learn how to identify issues of key importance.\nArchitects with more experience in negotiating contracts will learn new ways to better understand the issues and explain them to clients and consultants.\nAll participants will discover emerging risks and requirements and gain more clarity on how to navigate them.\nAll participants will become more familiar with the language of industry standard documents and the process by which they serve all project stakeholders fairly.\n\nPresented by \nBarbara Sable\, Director of Client Engagement and Risk Management\, Nexus Professional Risk \n A New Jersey native\, graduate of Northwestern “Go Cats!”\, Director of Client Engagement and Risk Management\, Barb joined Nexus in 2020. With 35+ years in the insurance industry\, Barb has earned the nickname Big Sister as she is always looking to offer words of wisdom and sound advice for clients and colleagues. With a BA in Mathematics\, Barb was attracted to working with A&E firms as her degree intersected nicely with design. A full day for Barb would include a hike along the C&O canal\, hearing a client say “Thanks! That’s really helpful”\, and raising funds for her favorite nonprofits. Always looking at the sweeter side of life\, her first job was working at a family-owned store and getting paid in candy and ice cream. Good luck reaching Barb on June 20th as it’s likely she and her husband\, Craig\, will be enjoying the longest day of the year with Ruthie their English Pointer. \nStephen Agnew\, Principal\, IMCI \nNative of Charlotte\, North Carolina\, graduate of UNC Charlotte\, Principal at IMCI\, and the team’s Chief Tea Drinker. You can catch him in the early mornings\, holed up in a local coffee shop\, sipping tea and focusing on a contract review or company project. Stephen is a relationship builder by nature; his top Strength is Developer so he sees nothing but potential in others and likes to invest in their growth. He is a voracious reader and podcast junkie\, regularly sharing introspective conversations about a wide array of topics with colleagues and clients alike. Stephen is ready and willing to answer all your insurance questions — on any day other than the first day of March Madness. He is the proud father of a son and a daughter. \n\n\nAIA members and AIAT Annual Partners: $0 | Non-members $25\nOnline program registration required for continuing education credit\nZoom link will be emailed to registrants\nDeadline to register is 10:00 am on May 27\, 2021\n\n
