SUMMARY:2022 Real Matter Workshop - Johanna Hurme
DESCRIPTION:2022 REAL MATTER WORKSHOP\n\n\nHosted by in situ studio\n\n\nJohanna Hurme\, 5468796 (Winnipeg\, MB)\n\n\nJoin AIA Triangle Women in Architecture at 6:00 PM for a pre-lecture reception & happy hour! \nWednesday\, July 27 | 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM\n\n\nTransfer Company – Ballroom\n\n\n500 E. Davie Street | Raleigh\, NC \n\n\n1.5 AIA LU\n\n\nINFO AND REGISTRATION\n\n\n\n\n\nAs part of the 2022 Real Matter Workshop\, Johanna Hurme will lecture on her current work with 5468796 in Winnipeg\, MB sharing architectural practice in the real world. \nJohanna Hurme is an architect and cofounder of Winnipeg-based 5468796 Architecture. The firm seeks projects that explore the potential for density\, affordability\, sustainability achieved through non-traditional means and a dynamic design approach. For the past 15 years\, 546 has been pursuing a critical architectural response to contemporary issues in multi-family housing and urban design\, grounded in real-life practice-based experience and a tandem investigation into worldwide housing research and built work. In this time\, Johanna has discovered that an architect’s scope of work stretches deep and wide\, necessitating an understanding of how their role in challenging contexts must increasingly intersect with politics\, economics\, social activism\, and other forms of cultural and scholarly research and pragmatic engagement.\n\n\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES \n\nParticipants will acquire knowledge of an architectural practice operating in the ‘real’ world\nParticipants will be able to observe current work through a visual presentation\nParticipants will discover appropriate (to the workshop) contemporary work happening in the ‘real’ world\nParticipants will explore process and project questions through public discussion after the lecture\n\n\n\n\n\n
