His education includes City University of New York\, the Pratt Institute\, and Columbia University. \nAndrew’s extensive career includes designing structural components for the Arleigh Burke Class Navy Destroyer vessel; the Port Authority – working on projects in Tower One of the World Trade Center\, Newark Airport\, and the Air Train for JFK airport; Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center where he served as the Chief Architect; and the City University of New York\, where he was responsible for building their first new community college in 40 years. In 2013\, Andrew came to New Jersey taking the position of County Architect for Passaic County.

This is the Tesar Lecture on Architecture and Culture. \nTara Dudley\, UT Austin \nAssistant Professor Tara A. Dudley teaches interior design history and architectural history courses. Her scholarship examines the contributions of African American builders and architects to the American built environment\, focusing on the antebellum and Reconstruction eras in the U.S. South. Her approach to the study of cultural resources is interdisciplinary with a focus on nineteenth-century American design\, African American architectural history\, historic preservation\, and material culture. She is the author of the award-winning book “Building Antebellum New Orleans: Free People of Color and Their Influence” (University of Texas Press\, 2021). Her in-progress works include a biography on the life and work of African American architect John Saunders Chase. As a member of the University’s Commemorative and Contextualization Projects research team\, Dr. Dudley engaged in research on the contributions of Black builders and craftsmen to the built environment of The University of Texas campus. She has partnered with the Neill-Cochran House Museum to guide the restoration of and develop interpretive programming for the only intact slave quarters building in Austin\, which is located on the museum grounds.  \nDr. Dudley served as a senior architectural historian for Austin-based preservation consulting firm HHM & Associates\, Inc. for two decades and continues to consult on preservation projects nationwide. She is well-versed in the integration of scholarly inquiry and professional practice and has expertise in the preparation of historic furnishings reports\, National Register of Historic Places nominations\, historic resource surveys\, and interpretive planning for historic sites. She has served on the City of Austin Historic Landmark Commission and is the current chair of the Texas State Board of Review\, the advisory committee that advises the State Historic Preservation Officer regarding National Register nominations.

This is the MacMillan Family Lecture. \nElgin Cleckley\, _mpathic design\nElgin Cleckley\, NOMA\, is an Associate Professor of Architecture and the Undergraduate Program Director. He leads _mpathic design\, a multi-award-winning pedagogy\, initiative\, and professional practice. After studying architecture at the University of Virginia (’93)\, Fontainebleau School of Visual Arts\, and Princeton University (’95)\, he collaborated with DLR Group (Seattle)\, MRSA Architects (Chicago)\, and Baird Sampson Neuert Architects (Toronto) on award-winning civic projects. Elgin was a Muschenheim Fellow at the University of Michigan and has taught at the University of Illinois\, Chicago.  \nBefore returning to teach at UVa in 2016\, Elgin served as the 3D Group Leader and Design Coordinator at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto\, within the Science Content and Design Department\, and was part of the Agents of Change Initiative from 2001 to 2016. This $47.5 million project produced the world’s first museum and design thinking architectural space—the Weston Family Innovation Centre (WFIC). WFIC featured award-winning architecture in collaboration with Toronto’s Diamond + Schmitt Architects\, along with exhibitions\, educational facilities\, and public art\, with works by David Rokeby\, Michael Awad\, Steve Mann\, and Stacy Levy receiving several Canadian Association of Science Centres Awards.

This is the Robert P. Burns Lecture. \nEric Höweler\, Höweler + Yoon Architecture \nEric Höweler\, FAIA\, LEED AP\, is a Professor of Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design\, where he has taught lecture courses and design studios with a focus on building technologies/integration since 2008. \nEric is co-founding Principal of Höweler + Yoon\, a research-driven\, multidisciplinary design studio working between architecture\, art\, and media. H+Y has a reputation for work that is technologically and formally innovative\, and deeply informed by human experience and a sensitivity to tectonics. One of the firm’s celebrated projects is the MIT Collier Memorial\, a milled granite compression structure that commemorates the life of Officer Sean Collier\, who was killed in action after the Boston Marathon Bombing. The Collier Memorial has been honored with the BSA Honor Award\, the American Architecture Prize\, the AIA Religious Architecture Award\, and has four times been a finalist for the Harleston Parker Medal. H+Y’s courtyard-exhibition hall in Chengdu\, SkyCourts\, has been honored by Architect Magazine\, Archdaily\, the Boston Society of Architects\, and the European Centre for Architecture. Other recent projects include the UVA Memorial\, a landform structure dedicated to enslaved laborers at the University of Virginia\, 212 Stuart Street\, a multi-family residential tower on Stuart Street in Boston\, MA\, the new MIT Museum in Cambridge\, MA. Current projects include the Living Village at the Yale Divinity School\, a residence hall adjacent to the historic Sterling Divinity Quadrangle\, as well as the Karch Institute of Democracy at the University of Virginia.

This is the annual Paul Tesar lecture. \nMauricio Rocha founded his practice in Mexico City in 1991\, and was shortlisted for the AR Emerging awards in 2009 for the School of Plastic Arts in Oaxaca. Since then\, Rocha has designed buildings around Mexico\, many in collaboration with the architect Gabriela Carrillo\, who was a partner at the practice between 2012 and 2019. Projects include the Centro de Invidentes y Débiles Visuales (Centre for the Blind and Visually Impaired) in 2001 – and the renovation of a library on the site in with Carrillo in 2015 – the Pátzcuaro Criminal Courts from 2015\, a brick studio for Rocha’s mother in 2016\, and most recently the extension of the Museo Anahuacalli in Mexico City.

This is the annual Paul Tesar lecture. \nFounder of Bangkok Project Studio\, and one of today’s most influential Thai figures in architecture\, Boonserm Premthada has been the subject of Bêka & Lemoine‘s latest documentary\, ‘Big Ears Listen With Feet’. The film highlights the personal story of the architect\, unveiling all the events and happenings that shaped his unique identity and sensibility. “Deaf from birth”\, the short movie looks at how the architect’s disability led him to listen in a different way\, learning from elephants. who “despite their large ears […] perceive sound mostly through their feet.”

In the College of Architecture\, she teaches design studios and seminar courses in digital fabrication and representation. She is the co-director of Van Dyck Murphy Studio\, a multidisciplinary architecture and design collaborative based in St. Louis\, Missouri. The practice engages in built and speculative projects at the scales of objects\, installations\, and environments\, focusing on work that explores materiality\, craft\, and experiential narratives. Recently\, Van Dyck Murphy studio was among the winning designers for the Alleyway Project\, an international public art competition that will result in the re-envisioning of an alleyway in downtown Ann Arbor\, Michigan. They are also in the process of designing and fabricating a ceramic 3D-printed masonry screen wall in downtown St. Louis. Recent work has been exhibited at the Des Lee Gallery\, the Sheldon\, and the Farrell Learning Center.
