DESCRIPTION:AIA Triangle Committee on the Environment (COTE)\n\n\nCOP27: Lessons Learned from the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (Egypt\, Nov. 2022) – Earn 1 AIA LU/HSW\n\n\nFebruary 23\, 2023 | 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM\n\n\nNCSU Talley Student Union | 2610 Cates Avenue\, Raleigh\, NC 27606\n\n\nRSVP Required | In-person only (No online option available)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe AIA Triangle COTE Committee welcome you to attend an overview of COP27 from two local attendees focusing on energy efficiency\, carbon emissions\, and equity.\n\n\n\nElizabeth (Liz) Bowen is a Raleigh native; she graduated from high school at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh. Liz has a background with developing and implementing innovative energy and sustainability solutions. She co-developed the LEED Lab course for the College of Design and developed the concept and pilot for the B Corp Clinic at Poole College of Management\, both at NC State University. She contributes to City of Raleigh’s sustainability efforts as a technical advisor to the Community Greenhouse Gas Action Plan and she is the co-chair of City of Raleigh’s Environmental Advisory Board.\nOver the course of her career\, she has administered over two dozen LEED projects and has led teams to realize significant energy savings. She is currently a project manager for clean energy and industrial efficiency projects in the public and industrial sectors with the NC Clean Energy Technology Center.\n\n\n\n\nSusannah Tuttle is the director of the North Carolina Council of Churches Eco-Justice Connection\, an initiative addressing environmental and climate justice issues as a moral imperative. Susannah received a Masters of Divinity degree with an emphasis on ecological ethics from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley\, CA. Susannah is a founding member of the Southeast Faith Leaders Network (SFLN) and is an active member of the US Climate Action Network. She currently serves on the Executive Board of the Southeast Climate & Energy Network (SCEN) and serves as the director of international community outreach for the US Climate Fair Share collaborative. Susannah lives on a gravel road in Orange County\, NC with her husband who is a builder\, gardener\, and musician\, and their two beloved dogs.\n\n\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES \n\nAttendees will be able to describe themes and conversations around the built environment held at COP27. \nAttendees will be able to articulate overarching themes around the climate crisis and translate these conversations into local strategies. \nAttendees will be able to identify strategies at different scales for reducing energy consumption globally and translate these to local action.\nAttendees will be able to outline issues of health and welfare for global populations as related to climate change.
