The program will promote understanding and increase knowledge of available system types. This presentation will focus on the evaluation of mass timber project requirements and opportunities\, material selection\, and assembly. Once designed\, mass timber encourages social interaction in new or renovated buildings and benefits the environment.\n\n\nLEARNING OBJECTIVES \n\nParticipants will understand the different mass timber structural systems available to explore for project types\nParticipants will utilize resources for determining maximum allowable spans for each system to layout load bearing elements in floor plans\nParticipants will estimate overall structural depths based on spans required for floor plan layouts\nParticipants will learn the various advantages of combining composite structures and mass timber slabs from start to finish of a project\n\n\n\n\nPRESENTED BY \nCollette Ramirez\, VP/Managing Director\, Lynch Mykins Structural Engineers \nCollette has been helping bring architectural visions to life through structural engineering since 2007. We will amend these guidelines as we receive further direction from the State of North Carolina.\n\n\nJoin Lynch Mykins President\, Dave Mykins\, for an in-person Lunch & Learn program at the Lynch Mykins’ downtown Raleigh office. This program reviews the process and procedures for handling a forensic investigation including assembling the team\, documentation of the conditions\, and resolution of the causes.  We will examine the details of a professional investigation including dealing with insurance companies\, site safety\, protection of the remaining building\, material testing and chain of custody just to name a few.  \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES: \n\nParticipants will discover how to assemble a qualified team for a forensic investigation based on the components required to take the project from initial investigation through documentation and final report\nParticipants will define what important considerations should be discussed with the owner of the site including site security\, active utilities\, accessibility\, communication\, and if there are portions of the site that remain occupiable\nParticipants will identify the proper organization\, tone\, and content of the final report required at the end of the investigation\nParticipants will establish a chain of custody for critical elements of the forensic study to ensure validity of testing and reports\n\nPRESENTED BY: \n \nDave Mykins\, PE\, President\, Lynch Mykins \nWith over 35 years in the analysis and design of structures\, Dave’s range of experience covers almost every type of building construction. Past projects include municipal buildings\, nursing homes\, shopping centers\, hotels\, churches\, private residences\, and various governmental projects. His projects have involved both new construction and rehabilitation and have ranged from one to twenty-one stories. His design experience is coupled with considerable field experience in evaluations of existing structures\, forensic investigations\, special inspections\, and construction administration. Dave oversees daily operations for Lynch Mykins’ three offices in Raleigh\, Richmond\, and Norfolk\, and 62 employees. \n
