Participants will learn about the principles outlined in the ASTM Standard Guide D7877 and ASTM Standard Practice D8231 and will be able to identify which assemblies are compatible with electronic testing and active monitoring. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES\n\nRecognize the differences between the four electronic testing methods for roofing and waterproofing membranes.\nUnderstand the capabilities and limitations of electronic leak detection (ELD) as outlined in ASTM Guide D7877 & ASTM Practice D8231.\nIdentify potential future design and construction failures based on analyzed data from real-time construction monitoring.\nDistinguish different applications for fully monitored embedded leak detection systems and how they function.\n\nPRESENTER\nShaun Katz\, Detec Systems\nShaun Katz has been the Sales Manager at Detec Systems for 5 years and has over 20 years of experience in customer service\, sales\, and business administration. \nShaun has assisted contractors\, architects\, consultants\, manufacturers\, facility managers and building owners with forensic leak investigation\, as well as leak detection in new construction. He has performed presentations and demonstrated ELD throughout the United States and Canada\, and recently won the 2020 Presenter of the Year Award from the Chicago chapter of IIBEC. \nHis goal is to provide a basic understanding of Electronic Leak Detection and to assist design teams with ensuring valid and conclusive ELD.

DESCRIPTION:AIA Triangle Women in Architecture \nPanel Discussion \nWhat really matters \nTuesday\, November 23 | 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm  \n1 AIA/LU credit \nREGISTER FOR ZOOM MEETING HERE \n\nProgram is a follow-up\, panel discussion with members of the Real Matters Workshop held in the summer of 2021. What really matters panel discussion will focus on the lessons learned challenging the perception\, value\, and relevancy of the practice of architecture in one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Members of the panel will share design solutions for social problems in the city\, engage critical dialogue about the future of the built environment in downtown Raleigh. Design solutions\, because of the Real Matters Workshop\, will be presented and provide a platform to keep the conversation going and growing within the architecture community. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES \n\nParticipants will derive key takeaways from the series – the current state of Raleigh\, the city’s current stressors and successes\nParticipants will identify the value of bringing local thought leaders from various backgrounds (racial inequity\, food deserts\, transportation\, infrastructure\, civic engagement\, and city government) together for public discussion\nParticipants will evaluate solutions that participants designed during the workshop and learn how to bring architecture and the community together\, engaging the public in the future of Raleigh\nParticipants will identify ways in which the local architecture community can support a future series to continue to challenge the perception\, value\, and relevancy of the practice of architecture in one of the fastest growing cities in the United States\n\nPRESENTED BY \nMatthew Griffith\, AIA\, Founding Principal of in situ studio \nMatt earned a BS in Mathematics from Davidson College and an MArch from the NCSU College of Design\, where he concentrated in Urban Design and received numerous awards\, including the Kamphoefner Fellowship and the AIA School Medal. \nZach Hoffman\, AIA – Project Manager at in situ studio \nHe graduated with Honors from Appalachian State University in 2011 with a degree in Building Science. While there\, he worked on the 2011 Solar Decathlon and received the Building Science Award for Design Achievement. He completed his master’s in architecture at the NCSU College of Design in 2014\, where he worked on the Benevolence Barn in Graham County with the 2014 Design Build Studio. Prior to joining in situ studio\, he worked with Cannon Architects for three years. \nBrittany Seigert – Manager at in situ studio \nBrittany graduated with honors from the NCSU College of Design with her BEDA in 2019 and her B.Arch in 2020. While a student at NC State\, she was involved with Freedom by Design working on playground improvements for students with developmental disabilities and was able to participate in cohort 2 of the leading strand\, creating an interactive exhibit in downtown Raleigh about the intersection of design and science. She was a nominee for both the AIA Triangle Scholarship and the Shawcroft Prize for Drawing. \nSara Noorani – Manager at in situ studio \nSara received her Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Landscape in Tehran\, Iran. While studying for her Master of Landscape\, she worked at Fluid Motion Architects\, where she had a chance to work on several public award-winning projects. In 2014\, she started her Master of Architecture at the NCSU College of Design. While studying at NCSU\, Sara worked at Clark Nexsen in Raleigh.

Located in Tallahassee\, Florida\, Sarah Lower (LLG Architecture) and Kyndra Light (Precision Building and Renovating & Gulf Coast Additive Manufacturing) will walk us through the process and challenges of pushing out into this new technology.  \nThis virtual hard hat tour is focused on the health\, safety and welfare of building users by exploring the case study’s site orientation challenges on a small tight urban lot and weather conditions in a hot-humid climate with new material and equipment considerations\, exploring iterative design processes during preliminary design to meet current IBC requirements without 3D printing standards available in the code\, and observing construction administrative challenges and adjustments during a global pandemic. \nLEARNING OBJECTIVES \n\nParticipants will identify each type of printer currently available and the value of its material\nParticipants will analyze the best type of printer to use based on key project elements such as site size and orientation\nParticipants will discover how to apply current IBC requirements and coordinate with engineers to meet current code requirements\nParticipants will identify the pros and cons of using 3D printing in construction\n\nPRESENTED BY \nKyndra Light\, CEO\, Precision Building & Renovating \nKyndra Light is the co-founder\, co-owner\, and CEO of Precision Building & Renovating\, LLC\, a state-certified commercial and residential construction company; and Gulf Coast Additive Manufacturing & Design\, LLC\, a company that supports the application of 3D printing in the construction field. \nKyndra holds a bachelor’s degree in Humanities and Women’s Studies\, and master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy\, both from Florida State University. Kamphoefner Honor Fellow\, Harry B. Gilbert Graduate Fellowship\, College of Design Dean’s Leadership Award\, and the Alpha Rho Chi Bronze Medal. She was also the recipient of AIA Triangle’s Outstanding Emerging Professional of the Year. \nAlong with 20 years of experience in the industry\, Sarah is driven by the genuine desire to bring people and places together. She sees each project and design problem as unique as her clients. She wants her work to provoke individualism while promoting relationships and community.
