GAIL LINDSEY AWARD

Christine Hilt, FASLA, PLA, LEED AP, CPD

Christine is a leader in environmentally friendly site design, incorporating fun, teachable moments whenever possible on her projects. She has dedicated her 36-year career to designing participatory, interactive outdoor spaces for all children of all abilities, with a strong emphasis on environmental education and community outreach. Her greatest professional achievement was being inducted into the American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows in 2011 for her exceptional and innovative work in K-12 design. She received the 2019 Planner of the Year award from the NC Chapter of Association for Learning Environments and recently completed her advanced Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) certification with the goal of becoming more aware of how good design practices can help deter and detect crime before it happens.

Christine has been working with communities of all sizes for over 30 years, creating vibrant public spaces that serve as economic and cultural hubs within their communities. Her expertise is in “place-making” where the community identity is carefully weaved into every design. Whether it’s a skate plaza, a farmer’s market, a playground or a community center, her goal is to create opportunities to gather people of all walks of life in one space.
