ABOUT AIA TRIANGLE
AIA Triangle is a local chapter of the American Institute of Architects. We are an organization of exceptional architects dedicated to partnering with the community to continually improve the design, functionality and safety of the world we are building together.
WHO WE ARE
The AIA is a world-wide organization founded in 1857 and has grown to more than 94,000 members in 200 chapters. Our main goals are to advocate for the value that architects bring to the table and to provide resources to architects which allow them to achieve their very best work.
AIA Triangle formed on January 1, 1999 when the AIA Raleigh and AIA Durham / Chapel Hill merged. We now serve Wake, Durham, Orange, Lee, Chatham, Franklin, Warren, Vance, Granville and Person counties.

THE PRESIDENT
Our Vision for 2024 is Community
Joshua Thomasson, AIA
In what will be another big year for the Triangle, it’s an honor to step into the role of AIA Triangle President, alongside an exceptional group of board members, representing one of the country’s most active and growing AIA chapters. My focus area for this year is community.
Architecture, at the crossroads of design, culture, and technology, plays a pivotal role in shaping our communities. Strengthening our architect community involves promoting inclusivity, diversity, sustainability, and showcasing the impact architects have in shaping the future.
This year will also be another big year for our taskforces with the return of signature events like the Golf Tournament, Triangle Barkitecture, Residential Home Tour, Design Awards, and more great events from Women In Architecture, Building Enclosure Council, Leadership Forum, COTE, K12 Educational Outreach, Young Architect Forum, and more. We have something for everyone this year, and we hope you’ll get involved and come out to these great events.
In addition to a robust slate of events and continuing education opportunities, the board will be directing our attention towards the development of our new strategic plan for AIA Triangle. This three-year plan holds significant importance as it seeks to further strengthen our organization and the architectural community by setting precise and measurable goals, particularly in areas of importance such as diversity, inclusivity, and sustainability. We look forward to sharing more information about this with you soon.
