PROGRAM
In this lecture, Professor Barrie will provide an introduction to the ontological roles and cultural significance of the house in history, philosophy and religion. There will be a particular emphasis on writers’ retreats, and it will feature a house he designed for his family in Boone NC.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Participants will discover the cultural significance and ontological roles of houses
- Participants will observe the passive solar design in houses
- Participants will distinguish the site specific design strategies in the planning of houses
- Participants will apply geometric and proportioning systems in the design of houses
