ABOUT AIA TRIANGLE
AIA Triangle is a local section of the American Institute of Architects. We are an organization of exceptional architects dedicated to partnering with the community to continually improve the design, functionality and safety of the world we are building together.
WHO WE ARE
The AIA is a world-wide organization founded in 1857 and has grown to more than 94,000 members in 200 chapters. Our main goals are to advocate for the value that architects bring to the table and to provide resources to architects which allow them to achieve their very best work.
AIA Triangle formed on January 1, 1999 when the AIA Raleigh and AIA Durham / Chapel Hill merged. We now serve Wake, Durham, Orange, Lee, Chatham, Franklin, Warren, Vance, Granville and Person counties.

Teri Canada, FAIA, LEED AP, NOMA
Dear AIA Triangle Members,
I am truly honored to serve as the AIA Triangle President for 2025, alongside an incredible Board of Directors and dedicated staff. Having lived in the Triangle for 34 years, I have a deep appreciation for this vibrant region and its strong architecture community. As we enter the new year, I am excited to work with you to encourage greater participation in our initiatives and introduce new services that will support our growth and success.
For 2025, my theme is “illuminate”—to shine a light on key issues, ideas, and individuals. I am particularly focused on three areas:
- Advocacy: We will emphasize advocacy as a core element of our mission and align ourselves with the advocacy initiative that AIA North Carolina already has in place. This includes engaging in policy discussions locally, statewide, and nationally to influence legislation that benefits our profession, particularly in areas like affordable housing, sustainable growth, and cultural preservation.
- Hidden Voices: We will prioritize outreach to underrepresented communities, including rural areas and minority architects, to amplify their perspectives and ensure they feel supported and valued. Our goal is to foster inclusivity and diversity through increased engagement.
- Our Work in the Greater Community: We will highlight the amazing contributions of our members and increase the visibility of architecture’s role in shaping our world through local publications and community involvement.
By focusing on these efforts, we can illuminate the transformative power of architecture and make 2025 a year of progress and innovation. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive, and impactful community.
Sincerely,
Teri Canada
