DESIGN
September 2nd: Design Update – Render/sketch progress update for your design. We use these on social media to advertise for the event, promote your firm, and get everyone excited for your build.
- Design entries for the competition are open to any kind of pet architecture – these may be doghouses, cat condos, bunny barns, chicken coops, bird houses, etc.
- Animal welfare is important in your design, and no designs should be considered permanent outside homes for dogs – participants are encouraged to design interior pieces, furniture, and dog houses that act as a temporary oasis on visits and short stays outside!
- Final designs should not exceed 60” Wide x 60” High x 60” Deep.
- Consider the weight of the design and your mode of transportation, as it needs to be easily moved to the event and then to the purchaser’s location. Two (2) people should be able to move it easily.
- Material costs should be modest, if possible. Consider using remnant and/or donated materials as an alternative to spending an excessive amount of money on your prototype.
- Designs are strongly encouraged to utilize sustainable, recycled, or re-purposed materials.
- All design structures must be freestanding.
- A member of Triangle Barkitecture staff will be assigned to each team/participant for design coordination and design milestones.
- Build progress images should be emailed to triangle.barkitecture@gmail.com by September 9, 2024 to ensure event space.
SIGNAGE
24″x36″ board showcasing and explaining your design (Best Signage Award Available). This date ensures our printer can print and mount all board before the event. Participants are encouraged to print their own board if desired. A board template will be sent out prior to this deadline that includes a small space for your team’s build number that will be used for voting.
Teams may elect to print their own board or submit their board for printing.
Deadline – September 16th: Signage Due in PDF format if electing to have your board printed by Triangle Barkitecture and brought to the event.
Deadline – October 5th: Signage Due if electing to print your own board and bring it the day of Triangle Barkitecture. A digital file must still be submitted if choosing this option.
Signage should include:
- Your company logo (if applicable)
- The name of your design (ALL designs must have a name!)
- Information about your design to make it more enjoyable for guests and may be valuable for potential buyers (remember this is a FUNDRAISER!)
- Acknowledgement of any vendors or sponsors that contributed to your prototype.
- Signage board size must be 24”x36” and oriented however best suits
- Design matters! No text only signage will be allowed.
DELIVERING YOUR PROTYPE
October 5th – Build Delivery (9am-Noon) – Builds delivered to Fenton before the event start. If builds cannot be dropped off at this time, please contact us ahead of time for scheduling a delivery. Additional arrangements must be made prior to event date by emailing triangle.barkitecture@gmail.com to coordinate.
All designs will become the property of one of our partners upon delivery to be used during the silent auction during the event. No exceptions unless a team donates the minimum bid donation for their build.
EXHIBITION SPACE
- SPACE IS LIMITED! Communicate all exhibition space design ideas to Barkitecture staff to ensure proper space is given to display and move around the space.
- Your prototype will be on grass or pavement depending on the number of entries to display. If you want your exhibit to rest on another surface (like a rug/pallet/piece of plastic grass) provide this item during your delivery or setup.
- Participants are encouraged to bring ‘props’ and other items that will enhance the ‘staging’ of your design (you can set up an exhibit or installation that includes a water bowl, plants, etc.) but please be tasteful and mindful of not creating litter.
- Think of your prototype and space as an INTERACTIVE ART INSTALLATION – an exhibit in itself! Make sure your space is always kept tidy.
- Doggy accidents happen! Be prepared for these accidents!
SILENT AUCTION
Throughout the event, a table will be set up for bidding on all the designs, with all proceeds going to our Rescue Partners. No designs are allowed to compete without entering the silent auction.
Participants are able and encouraged to bid on their own designs as well. As there is an award for highest sale amount, it is also encouraged to market your build during the event.
Winning bids will be collected on site by our current Rescue Partners, and arrangements must be made to transport the design at that time.
If a build does not receive a bid, the team submitting is responsible for coordinating the pickup of their build before event end.
