PROGRAM
This lecture on the the use of history and precedent begins with the so-called Texas Rangers and their reintroduction of historical precedent into architecture and urban design studios in the mid-20th century and ends with the School of Architecture at NCSU in the early 21st century.

Dr. Kristen Schaffer is an architectural historian in the School of Architecture, a recipient of the NCSU Outstanding Teacher Award, and an internationally recognized expert on Daniel H. Burnham and the Plan of Chicago. Her articles have appeared in British, Italian, and German publications. She has given talks at the National Building Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Chicago Humanities Festival, as well as at conferences and professional society meetings in the U.S. and Europe. She was a juror for the Burnham Memorial Competition sponsored by the Chicago Chapter of the AIA, and has been invited to participate in the Chicago Architectural Club jury for the 2020 Burnham Prize Competition.
