Light plays a crucial role in defining how we experience the built environment.  Yet, “good” lighting can seem difficult to achieve behind formulaic principles and technical jargon.  This course seeks to demystify lighting techniques and give frameworks for approaching different aspects of lighting design.  We’ll also introduce a few tips that can be used as tools to help attain a well-designed project that inspires.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Understand how to conceive a design direction for lighting and the role project requirements, constraints and opportunities play in developing the direction
  • Recognize methods to use lighting layers that will effectively enhance the space and elevate the overall occupant experience
  • Identify strategies to design lighting that will increase the comfort and wellbeing of occupants
  • Learn how to utilize lighting color properties to achieve desired effects in your lighting design.
