This program will present the benefits of having a geotechnical engineer fully involved as member of the design team, explain the cost versus risk relationship that exists for the geotechnical engineering components of a project, and identify geotechnical engineering aspects that could negatively influence project success through case examples.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Participants will examine the relationship of cost versus risk that exist for the geotechnical engineering aspects of a project
- Participants will be able to recognize the effects of surface and groundwater on geotechnical engineering structures
- Participants will be able identify the influence zones associated with foundations, subsurface walls, and retaining walls
- Participants will be able to describe the benefits of having a geotechnical engineer as a fully involved member of the design team

Mr. Huffman is currently Vice President / Division Manager of the Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Services at Draper Aden Associates in their Richmond, Virginia office. He has 33 years of experience in geotechnical engineering for private, public, commercial, residential, and industrial projects in the Mid-Atlantic region and is a licensed engineer in nine states. Mr. Huffman’s experience includes foundation design, retaining wall design, soil & site improvement, slope stability analysis, dams, and forensic investigations.
