Program is a follow-up, panel discussion with members of the Real Matters Workshop held in the summer of 2021. What really matters panel discussion will focus on the lessons learned challenging the perception, value, and relevancy of the practice of architecture in one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Members of the panel will share design solutions for social problems in the city, engage critical dialogue about the future of the built environment in downtown Raleigh. Design solutions, because of the Real Matters Workshop, will be presented and provide a platform to keep the conversation going and growing within the architecture community.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Participants will derive key takeaways from the series – the current state of Raleigh, the city’s current stressors and successes
  • Participants will identify the value of bringing local thought leaders from various backgrounds (racial inequity, food deserts, transportation, infrastructure, civic engagement, and city government) together for public discussion
  • Participants will evaluate solutions that participants designed during the workshop and learn how to bring architecture and the community together, engaging the public in the future of Raleigh
  • Participants will identify ways in which the local architecture community can support a future series to continue to challenge the perception, value, and relevancy of the practice of architecture in one of the fastest growing cities in the United States
