Building Enclosure Council – Intro to Structural Insulated Sheathing Materials

Center for Architecture and Design 14 E Peace Street, Raleigh, NC

This talk is designed to help the commercial building designer to understand the new products being rapidly introduced into the market that assist in installation of multiple steps of a normal commercial exterior assembly control layers, such as: thermal, air, vapor, structure, and fire control into one or fewer steps that are traditionally used in many of today’s building designs throughout the world.

BEC Research Triangle – Electronic Leak Detection Testing

Online Meeting

This one-hour course will cover Electronic Leak Detection (ELD) testing methods used for quality assurance of roofing and waterproofing membranes. Participants will learn about the principles outlined in the ASTM Standard Guide D7877 and ASTM Standard Practice D8231 and will be able to identify which assemblies are compatible with electronic testing and active monitoring.

BEC – Control Layer Fundamentals

Online Meeting

Join Building Enclosure Council Research Triangle for a presentation on the four major control layers of the building enclosure. Joseph Anetrella will explain the mechanisms of heat, air, bulk water and vapor and how they transport through building assemblies. This discussion will cover the importance of air barriers and continuous insulation as well as common installation challenges seen in the field. He will also present key strategies for achieving durable, energy-efficient, and thermally comfortable wall, roof and below grade assemblies.

BEC Research Triangle – Facade Design Using Lifecycle Carbon Analysis

Online Meeting

With the aim of reducing total carbon emissions, this presentation will demonstrate a design approach for building façades which combines both embodied and operational carbon emissions, thereby basing design choices on total lifecycle carbon emissions.

Changes in the Air (Barrier!) with BEC Research Triangle

Join BEC Research Triangle for a presentation by Benjamin Meyer, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, Building Enclosure Business Director at Siplast on the upcoming changes for air barrier requirements for commercial buildings in the 2022 ASHRAE 90.1 Standard and the 2024 IECC. This presentation will provide expert insight on the code development process as well as clarifications to the Whole Building Performance testing methods and stringency, design phase requirements, material and assembly requirements, and onsite installation verification requirements.  Also discussed will be the appropriateness of applications and the interaction between the Building and Energy code requirements.

Designer Handbook Series: Unitized Curtain Wall with BEC Research Triangle

Join BEC for a presentation on Unitized Curtain Wall assemblies. This presentation focuses on system components, performance variables, and early design processes involved in providing an efficient and coordinated unitized curtain wall design that can be successfully executed. We will discuss various solutions to handle unique design challenges and rigorous performance criteria for enhanced system performance.

The Critical Aspect of Air and Water-Resistant Barriers within the Building Envelope

Join BEC for a presentation on the critical nature of the air barrier with an emphasis on how a structure interacts with the surrounding environment. Gain knowledge on marketplace trends, technological advancements, and the importance of specifying the correct air and water-resistive barrier for your project. We will discuss above-grade air and moisture movement,  air barrier definition and its purpose, types of air barriers, design considerations and common jobsite challenges.

BEC-RT’s Fall Symposium

Join BEC-RT for the reboot of its annual symposium as it "peels back the layers" of what makes a high performing building enclosure with lectures spanning from "concept to construction."

BEC-RT 2024 Kickoff and Social

Is there a topic you want to learn more about, a project you want to tour, or an expert you want to hear from? Bring your questions and join fellow BEC-RT members for a 2024 Kickoff and Social at Smoky Hollow -- 2nd floor event space. This event is free; food and drink provided.
