  • Live Webinar – How Computational Design Can Help Us All (Part 1)

    Online Meeting

Computational design is the next big paradigm shift in design technology and we are looking for it to help us make better decisions. Ultimately levering the power of computers to help us solve the issues in our firm, industry, and world. This is the first of a pair of talks centered around introducing and unpacking computational design. This first talk will provide tangible examples of how Computational design has been used in the Triangle to improve design and the design process.

    Free – $20.00
  • Live Webinar – How to Think Like a Computational Designer (Part 2)

    Online Meeting

This is the second in a pair of talks centered around introducing and unpacking computational design. This second talk will build on the examples provided in the first talk , explain the history of computational design and unpack how we got to now. Most importantly, it will show you how to think like a computational designer.

    Free – $20.00
  • Live Webinar – AIA Triangle Accessibility Seminar

    Online Meeting

Join us for a three-day accessibility webinar lead by Dominic Marinelli of Accessibility Services. Dom will be joined online by experts in the field covering topics related to accessibility requirements for residential and non-residential projects as well as discovering what government experts will identify during inspections. Attend full program or select

    $35.00 – $165.00
  • COTE Getting to Net Zero: Building Science Tools in the Design Process

    Online Meeting

COTE Getting to Net Zero Lecture 1: This session will focus on the role of building science in the design process and examine tools and software that are being used by firms to track performance metrics. It will also offer a window into how local small, medium and large firms are approaching the same challenge.

    Free – $35.00
  • Live Webinar – Commissioning 101 – Industry Guidelines

    Online Meeting

The word "Commissioning" has different meanings to different parties involved in the design and construction process. A question frequently asked by owners new to the commissioning process is, "Don't I already pay for that?". In this session we will review commissioning according to the industry standard ASHRAE Commissioning Guidelines and North Carolina Energy Code. We will identify when commissioning should start and end, the steps in between, why it is needed in today's business environment, the value to the owner, and the cost of commissioning.

    Free – $35.00
  • COTE Getting to Net Zero: Integrative Design: Tracking Operational and Embodied Carbon

    Online Meeting

COTE Getting to Net Zero Lecture 2: Our next challenge is to build buildings with the lowest embodied carbon possible. Sometimes aligned and sometimes at odds, this session will provide an overview of how to lead a high-performance integrative design process, establish high performance goals, track energy and sustainable design goals, and achieve a low emissions building by evaluating opportunities and tradeoffs for reducing operational and embodied carbon.

    Free – $35.00
  • COTE Getting to Net Zero: Reducing Embodied Carbon Through Material Specs and Mass Timber Structures

    Online Meeting

COTE Workshop 3: This session will focus primarily on design strategies to reduce a building’s embodied carbon through the specification of building materials. The lecture will show best practices for building specifications of interior and exterior materials and how to specify products that have EPD’s and are healthy and low in embodied carbon. The lecture will also reveal the importance of the design of the structural system for reducing the embodied carbon with an emphasis on how to design and specify mass timber systems.

    Free – $35.00
  • AIA North Carolina State of the State

    Online Meeting

AIA NC Executive Vice-President, David Crawford, Hon. AIA, will update members on issues happening across the state . He will include a legislative and regulatory update from the 2020 AIANC Legislative Agenda, as well as overall state issues we can expect to see in 2021. Laura Miller, AIA of LS3P, 2021 AIA NC President, will be on hand to discuss our chapter and what changes, plans and events are in store for the coming year.
