Jake Heffington, AIA (Diversify Architecture) will moderate a panel of local thought leaders surrounding the topic of 'real matter' and 'think local'. Panelists include Anna Stokes, AICP (CAMPO), Erin White (Community Food Lab), Bettie Edwards-Murchison (Raleigh Organizing Against Racism), and others to be announced.

As part of the 2022 Real Matter Workshop, Johanna Hurme will lecture on her current work with 5468796 in Winnipeg, MB sharing architectural practice in the real world.

As part of the 2022 Real Matter Workshop, Neeraj Bhatia, architect and urban designer, will lecture on his current work with The Open Workshop (San Francisco and Toronto)

As part of the 2022 Real Matter Workshop, Ifeoma Ebo, Urban Designer and Planning Strategist will lecture on her current work at Creative Urban Alchemy.

As part of the 2022 Real Matter Workshop, Hector Barroso will lecture on his current work with Taller Hector Barroso (Mexico City)

This program will provide training to architects, engineers, and others in the building profession to efficiently and effectively, evaluate buildings and infrastructure following a hurricane or other disaster, either natural or manmade, so that residents and employees can return to their homes and businesses as quickly as possible.

AIA North Carolina Executive Vice President, David Crawford, Hon. AIA will update members on issues happening across the state. He will include legislative and regulatory updates from the AIA North Caroline Legislative Agenda, as well as overall state issues we can expect to see in 2023. John Paquin, AIA, 2023 AIA North Carolina President will be on hand to discuss our chapter and what changes, plans and events are in store for the coming year.

Earn 8 AIA HSW Credits -Program will include requirements that impact multi-family housing accessibility, as found in the Fair Housing Accessibility Guidelines, the 2018 NC Building Code and its Accessibility Standard A117.1 – 2009, the 2010 ADA Standards and new safe harbor standards approved by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for compliance with the Federal Fair Housing Act Accessibility Guidelines.

Earn 4 AIA HSW Credits -Program will review the most common items that are missed in design and construction resulting in violations of accessibility requirements from the federal agency that develops and enforces it. Participants will develop an understanding of what federal inspectors and attorneys will be focusing on in their inspections of residential (Fair Housing Act Accessibility Guidelines) and Commercial (2010 ADA Standards), as well as develop an understanding of what changes can be anticipated in state and federal accessibility requirements and when these changes will go into effect.
